About Me

Welcome to Fresh and Faithful, a website dedicated to fresh, healthy, food and faithful parenting. I am an Orthodox Christian mother trying to make healthy meals for my family and raise virtuous children. My hobbies include cooking, playing with my children, and gardening (I’m terrible at gardening though or else this site would be named something like Fresh, Faithful, and Fruitful).

All of the recipes and recipe reviews featured on the Fresh and Faithful website are healthy and vegan for people trying to be healthier, wanting to maintain a healthy weight, or are opposed to eating animals. These recipes also double as being fast approved meals for fellow Orthodox Christians. In order to help out other Orthodox parents, I wish to provide a variety of Lenten recipes to prepare for your families. I know that, at least for our family, our go-to meals during fasting periods were PB&J sandwiches or pita bread with humus. And frankly I was just out of ideas of how to make fasting meals that were also healthy until I started trying recipes from Forks Over Knives – The Cookbook: Over 300 Recipes for Plant-Based Eating All Through the Year

As soon as I gave birth to my first son, I realized that there are so little resources out there for parents wanting to raise virtuous children. In the Faithful Mom tab, I will have compiled posts about parenting, saints, children, and our Church. Even though this website is specifically dedicated to Orthodox Christians, all are welcome to read and comment. We all want the best for our children and for them to develop morals and virtues no matter what religion we are. Therefore, I believe that most posts and articles could be helpful to parents that aren’t Orthodox Christians too.

There will be new content posted at least every Monday. Comments and feedback are greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the information that you posted. I want to buy one whole-food plant based diet cookbook. Which one do you think has the best tasting food? The Forks over Knives cookbook or the China Study cookbook or a different one?
    Thanks for your advice.

Hi Marisa. I’m sorry it took me so long to respond to your comment. I actually have not tried any recipes from the China Study Cookbook yet and have not tried recipes from very many other cookbooks. I was not super impressed with the recipes in the Forks over Knives cookbook because only half of them I would make again. Because of this, I have actually created a new weekly segment where I will be trying six recipes from a cookbook and giving an overall review. I would be happy to test out recipes from the China Study Cookbook for you next (after I’m done reviewing 350 Best Vegan Recipes) so I could give you a better recommendation. I just ordered the China study cookbook and the China Study Quick & Easy cookbook today so I can get started on making and reviewing those recipes.

    Hello Emily,

I recently came across your Pinterest profile and had to immediately start following you! I really enjoy the information you have been sharing and noticed that you also have group boards. I love that you have started a vegan community so people can share and motivate others to do the same.

If you are open to it, I would really love take part in your board Sharing Awesome Vegan Recipes. It would be great to join the conversation and pin some interesting things I have discovered. I have only been vegan for 7 months now but I am super passionate and would love to share some of my journey!

Many thanks & so glad we could connect!

    Kindly,
    Rebekah
